Friday December 11th, 2009, for the first time, the HAC will offer a concert with a wide repertoire in English, French and in some African languages consisting of African folksongs, lullabies, Spirituals, Afro- Gospel and some African choral works.

Come to join us now! Each ordinary person who loves to sing is very welcome to join and sing for an extraordinary event.

We believe that everybody can sing or learn how to sing African Music!

Hamilton Evening of African Choral Music Event

“Hamilton Evening of African Choral Music” is a wonderful time of a year when African folksongs, lullabies, Spirituals, Afro-Gospel and some choral works of African music-making are to feature to the public of Hamilton area by choirs. What is original: through the music the both audience and singers will feel like going on journeys in Africa but coming back at the end of the performance.

A new born Chorus in Hamilton...

In this very first blog post of our Network,We do think it's somehow appropriate that we begin by giving people in Hamilton area chance to get to knowing what is essential about the “Hamilton Afro Chorus”, HAC. In these following lines, we are presenting the HAC to some three categories of people. Firstly, this blog post goes to the hearts our future members for without their involvement this dream won't come true in the city of Hamilton. Secondly, we would like to send to a message to our future public for if they are informed about their own new born chorus, how would they come to attend and appreciate our concerts? Lastly, if on the one hand this is a privilege to inform our different but great and wonderful choirs in Hamilton area about our existence, on the other hand we find that it's fair to let the local community of the non-profit charitable organization know that we are joining them soon to work together for the good of our city.

What it is…

HAC, a community non-profit organization, proposes to unite those who simply love to sing in fellowship. People in the Hamilton area are offered a wonderful opportunity to mingle while singing music, especially African.
HAC is a community choir where volunteer singers of every race, every gender, and age (from 17 to 77 years old) are very welcome. Those who are curious or fascinated can join to taste the sounds and sights of African music-making. No audition is required.

Mission statement…

HAC supports charitable organizations and programs. At concerts given throughout the year African musical compositions and inspirational stories will be featured in support of fundraising. The choir will sometimes work on music dedicated to peace with a vision making the world a better place.

Repertoire…

HAC offers a wide repertoire in English, in French and in some African languages consisting of African folksongs, lullabies, Spirituals, Afro- Gospel and some African choral works. This is what will keep the choir fresh and original. What's amazing, both singers and audience will experience a tour of Africa without ever leaving their seats.

Membership…

HAC as a community choir consists of singers who will come from different backgrounds, Canadians born and immigrant singers/songwriters create a blend, both physically and spiritually through singing. Everyone who has a passion for choral music and enjoys exploring a new experience of singing and performing African music. Under the guidance and leadership of the Congolese Composer Maurice Mondengo, the choral director and its wonderful and experienced artistic staff, the Hamilton Afro Chorus program offers an opportunity for singers from different churches, schools, Colleges and Universities to a series of performances. Singers are encouraged to join and learn how to combine African rhythm, feelings and harmonies while singing African way, such a throat singing, cantorial chanting and African folk melodies.

What HAC can bring to other choirs…

Sharing African choral music is another side of the coin of HAC’s mission. HAC program is keen about sharing African Choral music to different choirs that want to sing African music in Hamilton and surrounding areas. That’s why its artistic staff accepts invitations to teach songs for the best performance of African Music in Hamilton area and to participate in prestigious musical events. The Hamilton Afro Chorus is an exciting and stimulating choral program that will bring something new in choral universe of Hamilton and surrounding areas.

Last word for now?

Please note that the "Hamilton Afro Chorus" is not a professional chorus. We are creating this as a hobby with strong passion for sharing with people in Hamilton area who love to sing something of the richly varied African choral music. Please bear with us as we learn about how to share the African culture of music which is totally omnipresent in everyday life with those who certainly have a different background. Day by day, we are basically feeding our venture by the support of many ordinary persons who could bring their extraordinary ideas and encouragement to make this dream come true.
